Migrant Rights Groups Fight Against Trump’s Executive Order

Across the globe, migrants continue to suffer as societies deprive them of their rights. In the past, it was believed that the violation of the rights of these individuals was only witnessed in other countries. In the recent past, President Donald Trump signed an executive order barring migrants from certain countries from entering the United States. Trump accused the migrants of spreading terrorism in the United States.

Most of the countries that were included in the executive order were mainly from the Middle East. The ban did not exclude individuals with green cards or visas.

The implementation of the executive order led to gross violation of human, civil, and migrant rights of the individuals involved. Many people were detained in the United States’ airports with no accommodation, food, nor healthcare services.

This situation triggered Americans to come out and protest against the ban, as it was not in line with the ideologies of the United States’ founding fathers. Moreover, several rights groups were involved in the fight for the rights of the detained migrants.

One of the organizations that were actively involved in the fight was the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). According to the information published on USA Today, the group engaged in providing pro-bono legal services to the detainees. The entity filed a lawsuit challenging the executive order. The lawsuit was successful, as the court put a stay on the order. However, the violation of the migrants’ rights did not stop.

Many continued to be detained days after the ruling. In addition to offering legal services, the group sought for food and medical services on behalf of the detainees. ACLU funded these operations courtesy of money raised from an online fundraising campaign that they carried out during the period. According to the group, it received donations from over 350,000 individual donors. Charity groups such as Lacey & Larkin Frontera Fund contributed towards the initiative. The total amount collected was well over $24 million.

With most of the migrants affected being Muslims, The Council on American-Islamic Relation (CAIR) actively engaged in the fight for the detainees’ rights. The organization partnered with other rights groups to ensure that the affected persons were all attended to regardless of their religious background. CAIR was founded with the objective of fighting against discrimination targeting Muslims in the United States. Other organizations involved in the fight for the migrants detained in the airports were CUNY CLEAR, Families for Freedom, and the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project.

About Lacey & Larkin Frontera Fund

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin co-founded Lacey & Larkin Frontera Fund a few years ago. The duo uses the charity group to fund organizations advocating for migrant rights, freedom of speech, and civic participation in Arizona.

The fund is headquartered in Phoenix. The corporation has been using $3.75 million that they were awarded by the court as settlement money following their wrongful arrest by Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County. Notably, the two journalists are the brains behind Village Voice Media and Phoenix New Times. They are actively involved in fighting for human rights.

The fight for fair treatment and creating a space to exercise people’s rights

In Arizona, many immigrants have been held captive by the Homeland Security department pending their deportation. Most of these people come from poor backgrounds and can’t afford lawyers or advocates to represent them. Read more: Village Voice Media | Wikipedia

As much as their cases are strong enough to have them released, this is not the case since they do not know how to defend themselves. Lawyers are offered by The Florence Project to take up these cases. This project has also taken the responsibility of providing social welfare to these detainees. They believe in justice and human rights. This is exactly what they offer to the detainees.

Whenever people hear of immigrants, the first thought that comes to mind is adults. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Children have also fled their countries looking for asylum elsewhere. In the United States, thousands of these young fellows have managed to get to the border without being accompanied by a guardian or parent. Some of them are usually trafficked for money.

If they are caught by the law enforcers, they are expected to represent themselves in court. Some organizations such as the Young Center have taken it upon themselves to create awareness of human rights by advocating for these children. The Center is determined to improve the systems of immigration so that children can be treated fairly during proceedings. Read more: Michael Lacey | Crunchbase

American Civil Liberties Union, Arizona, which started in the late 1950’s stands for the rights of minorities in the society. Larkin and Lacey have stood against laws in Arizona that are unconstitutional and they have spearheaded the day laborers’ freedom of speech. They also encourage the use of legal documents to avoid deportation from Arizona.

Other people have come together to provide the basic needs to the immigrants at the borders. Tucson Samaritans project began in 2002 and it works on providing medicine, food, maps, water and packages that immigrants can use to survive the journey through the desert that is close to Tucson. This project was begun by the Southside Presbyterian Church.

DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, is another organization that is helping immigrants in the United States. If any immigrant has achieved the least requirements necessary to be a DACA beneficiary, they can apply to the program.

This program is usually a two-year benefit with a renewal option. Once an immigrant is accepted into the program, they are eligible to apply to schools and even work in the United States. Additionally, the immigrants get a chance to access some state-provided benefits such as access to tuition grants and driving licenses in some States.

The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund is a brainchild of Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. The Frontera Fund began in order to assist in the fair implementation of civil, immigrants and human rights alongside the freedom of speech.

The Fund seeks to support individuals and organizations who stand for people who are oppressed from exercising their rights.

Taking into consideration that this organization’s seed fund was brought about by an unfair arrest of the founders, it is evident that it was started with a meaningful purpose.

Brown Modeling Agency: Central Texas’ Super Agency

Like the old saying goes, “everything is bigger in Texas.” This notion rings true in most cases and the modeling industry is no exception. Though not being known as an exclusive area for modeling, Central Texas has changed the status quo thanks to Brown Agency. This is a full-serviced model and talent agency that produces work over a wide field of work. This field of work includes industrial videos, promos, commercials, television, print, film, voiceover, corporate events and many more. You won’t find too many other similar organizations that can cover this much ground in such short periods of time.

This guy has worked in the industry for many years. He started out as a model himself. He then would then move to the development side of the business. Brown has stated that enjoys being behind the scenes more so than being in front of the camera. He has worked with and has trained many up and coming models. His brilliant way of thinking as helped to revolutionize Brown Agency as well as the industry itself. Brown Agency is currently at the top of its game, and it has produced some very good results. The agency is well-connected with cities like Los Angeles and Miami. It has booked numerous prominent gigs with L’Oréal, Louis Vuitton, Dell, Landshark Beer, Dodge, Bing, Bright House and many others. Thanks to such progressive effects, Brown Agency has put the spotlight on the city of Austin, Texas. Check out blog.brownagency.co for more.

Formerly known as Wilhelmina Austin, Brown Agency has completed a major acquisition deal with Heyman Talent-South.  Brown has also stated that “the agency is only as good as its talent.” Nothing more that can be said would defy this statement and logic. A lot of grooming is involved with producing such great talent. These individuals are similar to unpolished diamonds in a sense. With the right teachings, they have the potential to go on to having a brighter career. All in all, Brown Agency is the epitome of modeling/talent success.
